What is an elective ultrasound?

An elective prenatal ultrasound is a non-medical optional ultrasound performed during pregnancy.  Unlike routine medical ultrasound, this experience allows you to see your baby in a more relaxed and intimate setting. Elective ultrasounds DO NOT replace any routine diagnostic ultrasounds ordered by your physician, and DO NOT assess for abnormalities.

We require that all of our patients are already receiving treatment with a healthcare provider for prenatal care. We require that all of our patients have had all routine doctor ordered ultrasounds appropriate for their gestational age at the time of their appointment.

Are your scans covered by insurance?

At this time, insurance does not cover elective prenatal ultrasounds. Since this is an elective procedure and is not intended to be a replacement for your doctor ordered ultrasound, you will need to pay the cost of this ultrasound as an out-of-pocket expense. You can pay online at the time of booking, or in person with cash or card.

Are family/friends/kids allowed to join?

Yes! Friends, family, and children are welcome at your appointment. We don't necessarily have a limit for how many extra guests can attend, as long as everyone fits in your space comfortably and we have room to scan.

Is there any prep for my scan?

We recommend that you stay well hydrated in the days leading up to your appointment to optimize the amniotic fluid levels which can help us better visualize your baby's face. You do NOT have to have a full bladder for your scan, however it is helpful at times to scan with a full bladder if it is comfortable for you to hold.

Will I always get a good 3D/4D image of my baby?

We always do our best to get beautiful pictures, but sometimes factors such as baby's position, placenta position, umbilical cord, or hands/feet get in  the way. We make no promises that the images will be similar to those you might have seen elsewhere or even from our facility, or that we can always meet everyone's expectations. We do not offer refunds when we aren't able to achieve a good picture, but we DO offer a rain check to repeat the attempt at no cost if we can't at least get a partial image of baby's face.
